Datça hosts its 'Greek friends'

September 3rd Datca

A special event was held Wednesday night in Datça Amphitheater to mark the friendship between the Aegean town of Datça and Greece’s Simi Island.

The event was originally scheduled to be held in Simi on Tuesday, but was postponed after some participants had problems obtaining a visa. More than 170 Greeks from Simi and Rhodes attended.

Speaking at the event, Datça Mayor Tokcan said the festival, held for the eighth time, sets an example for world peace. “A small peninsula and a small island; Datça and Simi,” said the mayor. “What the people here want is peace and brotherhood. We are happy to host our Greek friends here.”

Simi Mayor Lefteris Papakaladoukas noted in his speech that the visa problem between Datça and Simi should be lifted. “I see that there are no differences between the people in Simi and Datça,” he said. “There are only borders. I hope that the visa [requirement] is lifted and we come together more often.”
